My Personal Statement
I am applying for this apprenticeship because I would like to get into the media industry, and I feel it would be a great entry into the industry as I will learn many necessary skills and adjust to working in industry. This subject interests me because I have always been into film, tv and music and have always been interested in the production aspects of it. This only got more interesting to me during my Level 3 Creative Media college course where I learned about many aspects of media from pre-production to advertising. I think I am suitable for this apprenticeship as I have a good knowledge of the subject as well as experience using different equipment that I will possibly be using during this placement. Previous courses I have studied relate to this apprenticeship, I have operated different equipment in both my GCSE photography course and my Level 3 Creative Media course as well as having many photo/video editing opportunities. After I have finished this placement, I would like to go into a full-time job in the media industry, preferably surrounding production.

Throughout my time in different courses, I have developed many academic skills. During one of my first-year media projects (Culture in the Digital Age) I had to adjust to many different things such as working from home due to covid restrictions. This allowed me to develop many skills which were important for the course and the rest of the courses I would be doing in the future. First, I had to develop my communications skill because I was unable to be in college a lot of the time due to covid, so I therefore had to keep in touch with my lecturers and classmates to stay updated on the course and the tasks I had to complete whether it was via Microsoft teams or social media. I also had to do a lot of problem solving as I had very little equipment and no editing software, I had to use all my equipment together to create a successful recording, even having to use a chair as a tripod as I didn’t have one at the time. The things I learned during that assignment (communication and problem solving) are especially important traits to have in the world of work, especially in the media, as you would need them to navigate a set and solve any problems that might come up. In my last project of college (barbering project) I was tasked with working in a team to create a barbering tutorial video. I made multiple practice videos with my team which got me used to working on set with others and the final product was highly successful and gave me valuable experience of teamwork. In the start of my second year in college I had greatly developed my organisation skills, I kept on top of all my work and finished projects to the highest standard due to how I broke down my tasks and managed my time around completing each of them. I am excited to start this apprenticeship because I am very enthusiastic and confident about all the work I am given and always do my best to make it the best quality I can.

I do some media related things outside of college. For example, I like to do photography in my spare time, especially of nature and different structure throughout various places I visit and any run down or partially demolished buildings. I also go skateboarding regularly where I often record my friends as well as edit any footage, they have recorded of me and I use this footage and the edited together videos as a way to track my skateboarding progression as well as showing my progression to others, either personally or through social media posts. I also play a lot of videogames where I often record different sessions and capture screenshots, although I haven't done anything with these clips and screenshots yet, I plan to do different edits with them and will most likely put them on YouTube.
