Mock Interview

What is a Mock Interview
  • A mock interview is a practice interview for a job interview. It is meant for you to get used to the preparation of an interview and to get you more used to an interview environment as well as helping to develop your communication skills.

  • Mock interview benefits:
  • - Helps to learn how to answer difficult questions
  • - Develops interview strategies
  • - Improves communication skills
  • - Reduces stress before an actual job interview
  • - Receive feedback on interviewing things
  • - Familiarises you with the interview process

How to Prepare for a mock interview
- Research the company: it is important to have a good understanding of what the company does including things like how big the company is, their audience/customers and their ethos.
- Read the job description: it is important to read the job description carefully as it will help you link your past experiences to the job and highlight your suitability for the position as well as making you feel more well prepared for your role.
- Prepare possible questions and how to answer them.
- Know what to wear to the interview: if unsure about dress code ask before the interview, go for a smart but casual look.
- Plan how you are getting to the interview location.
- Make sure you have everything you need to bring (eg. identification)
- Think of any questions you might want to ask at the end of the interview, it will make you seem more interested in the job and show you have done research and listened to what has been said in the interview.
- Get a good night sleep before the day of the interview.

My interview preparation
- I researched into channel 4, looking at what the company does, the kind of content they create and even looking at some channel 4 / film 4 shows and films that I personally like.
- I was not provided with an actual job as it was only a mock interview therefore there was no job description to research.
- I looked at possible questions I would be asked and wrote a rough idea of how I would respond to them.
- There was no dress code so I dressed casually.
- The interview was held in my college so there was no need to plan a route at I make the journey 4 times a week.

Feedback from interviewer (Rachael Cowley)

Well done on that; you expressed your interest in the production side of the industry which was great. You also engaged in conversation about film/TV shows which also shows your passion towards the subject. You were able to make your weakness into a positive by saying how you would improve on time management in the future which employers would be grateful to see that you are open to improving yourself as an individual.

Response to feedback

My interview was overall effective and I had no negative comments therefore there is no improvements that can be made based on the feedback I was given. However, a few things I personally noticed was that my body language wasn't very professional so I should try to sit still and correct mu posture, as well as dress a bit smarter.
