Logo
Logo analysis
All business logos I have seen tend to follow one of two formats. Either they use a bold distinguishable text or they use imagery to reflect their company either reflecting what the company does or the actual name of the company. Most of the logos are also very colourful, this makes them stand out and feel more inviting. I will most likely create 2 logos, so I can try both approaches to my logo and see which works better for me.
My Logos
Sketch:
This is a rough paper sketch for the layout of my logo, I designed it as a square logo as a square logo as it could be cropped down into a circle logo if needed. However, if the original logo was circle and it needed to be square at some point it would not be so easy to change and I might need to redesign it. The sketch logo was purely for layout, I will be deciding on colours, textures and fonts in photoshop.
Logo 1:
This is my logo. I decided to go with white text on a darkish shade of purple background. I think these colours work well as they don’t clash, and the font is easily readable. I decided to go with a kind of cartoon font style rather than the blocky font I used in my initial sketch. I used 2 fonts which I downloaded from dafont.com, ‘Stella’ (used for “LJR”) and ‘Sketch 3D’ (used for “MEDIA”). I think these fonts work well together and successfully create the cartoon style I was going for with my logo. I kept it simple as overcomplicating the logo could make it hard to read or understand.
Feedback
Response to feedback
100% of people who took part in the survey thought that my logo was effective. All the responses of what was good about the logo mentioned the colour scheme so there is no improvement that needs to be made on my colour choice, there was also mention of the font being effective so I believe the logo is very effective overall. However, a third of the people who took part in the survey said that my logo could still be improved. One of the suggestions of how I could improve it is to add more imagery so I might experiment a little with different icons and shapes which could make the logo more visual. Another was a suggestion for a minor improvement which was that the 'E' and 'D' in the word "media" was too far apart so I will fix this in photoshop.
Logo 2:
This logo is the same as my first design but with the 'E' and 'D' closer, as suggested in a survey response, I think this does look a little better than the original. As the space between the letters is determined by the font I was using I had to fix this using the brush tool as well as inserting a screenshot of the first to letter in 'media' from the original logo in order to edit the text in the way I wanted to.
Logo 3:
This design was based on the suggestion that was made that my logo could use more imagery. I done this by getting an image of a disc and then editing it to make it fit my consistent color scheme. I then used a different font which I thought fit better in this version of my logo design. I made the text black to contrast with the background and made all the 'shine' marks in the font white as it made it stand out more and didn't clash.

66.7% of people who took part in the survey thought that "logo 3" was most effective. All of the responses for people who chose "logo 3" as the better logo say that "logo 3" is more effective as it looks more professional due to the imagery used in it which was suggested in my last survey, there is also one response which mentions that they like the font that is used. All of the responses for people who chose "logo 2" as the better logo say that "logo 2" said it was more effective because it was simple and easier to read due to the clear font and contrast of colors. However, a third of the people who took part in the survey said that "logo 3" could still be improved. One suggestion was to change the color of the font and another suggested to change the font all together, from this I can clearly see that the font was not effective and something I will need to improve on. After careful consideration I have decided to temporarily use "logo 2" until I have made improvements on "logo 3" as "logo 2" does not currently have any issues, I think this is a good idea as it doesn't risk being ineffective to use during the time I am making the improvements on "logo 3" in the future.
