Summary 

I watched a video of 5 ways to improve my digital profile/digital footprint. In this video they mentioned 5 main points: 

  1. Complete digital profiles 
  2. Add social media links under email signatures 
  3. Add work samples 
  4. Keep engaging visitors 
  5. Build your network 

Complete Digital Profiles 

It mentioned that I should make a digital profile on multiple social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I decided I would make digital profiles on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. It also said that when doing my Facebook profile, I need to make sure I do the ‘about’ section in as much detail as possible. It also said that on linked in I should mention things to sell myself to employers such as awards, volunteering work, academic accomplishments, interests, skills, and work experience. It also said that I should upload media such as documents, photos, links, videos, and a job description. Finally, it said to make sure to link my most impressive work. 


Add Social Media Links Under Email Signatures 

In the video it also said that whenever I send an email to an employer, I should put links to my social media underneath my sign off. 


Keep Engaging Visitors 

It also said that I should post regularly and reply to any comments on my posts to engage my visitors and show any possible employers my communication skills. 


Build Your Network 

Finally, they said that I should network with people as the more people I know the more chance I have of getting places in media work. 


Examples of Digital Profiles 


Example 1

This is an example of a digital profile on LinkedIn. The page includes her name, job description, location and university in the header. Also, in the header there are 2 buttons, one saying ’view in recruiter’ so it is easy for an employer to employ her, and the other saying ’message’ allowing anyone viewing her profile to message her directly. Beneath this, she has a detailed description of what she does and her skills. This is a good digital profile as it is very detailed and shows all the information that would be needed from an employer deciding whether to employ them. 


Example 2
This is an example of a digital profile on Instagram. The page includes her Instagram username, name, job description, location, LinkedIn profile, and other things she is involved in with links to the related pages. There are also 3 buttons on her page, one saying 'message' which will allow anyone viewing the profile to message her directly, one saying 'get tickets' which i am assuming will allow people to buy tickets to her speakings, and the last one saying 'Email' allowing anyone viewing the page to email her. Underneath, there are also story highlights with different titles most likely showing examples of her past work which will give good insight into her work to any possible employers. This is a good digital profile as it is simple and shows all the information that would be needed from an employer deciding whether to employ them along with providing easy access to contact them.
