Business card

Research
Before I began my business card design, I decided to look at examples of other business cards. I also looked on different websites to learn about what they are for and what is necessary to include on them.

Inspiration

I took inspiration from 2 different business cards for mbusiness card design (see below). I searched what the size a business card should be and then set my background as that size on photoshop. I stuck with the colour scheme of my logo (black/white/purple). I took inspiration from the 1st business card below for the layout of my business card but rather than using a hexagon I used a triangle as I thought it fit better. I took inspiration from the 2nd business card below for what information to put on, text layout and the addition of a QR code.

My 1st Design

As you can see from my design, I have taken inspiration from both business cards seen above. I decided to use my logo colour scheme for my business card as it would keep things consistent and make it easier to implement my logo into it.

Front: I included my logo on the left side of the business card inside a triangle which is the same colour as my logo background, this made it easier to blend in the logo as well as giving my business card a nice design feature. Along the top of the business card, I put my name in the Sketch 3D font (this is one of the fonts used in my logo). I then put my area of work (media) underneath in a different colour and font (American Typewriter). I used this same font and colour text in a smaller size to put the information that I wanted to include, this includes where I am based, my email, and my phone number. Finally, in the bottom right of my business card I put a custom QR code which I created on QR generator; I again copied my logo colour scheme with this QR code also placed my logo inside of it. The QR code links to my website.

Back: I decided to go for a simple but effective design on the back of my business card. I placed my logo in the centre of it and then put a top and bottom border on it using a black film reel design. I think this is effective as the logo is the centre of the subject and the film reel relates to the subject of media.

My 2nd Design

In my first design I found that the text that I had written in purple might have been difficult to read as it was a dark colour therefore I decided to change it to make it easier to read. Unfortunately I couldn't find the font that the text was originally in so I found a similar font, 'JMH Typewriter - Black'. I then edited this font changing it to white so it was easier to read but also putting a purple stroke on it so it still stuck with the colour scheme. I am happy with the result and find it much easier to read.

Feedback

Response to feedback

100% of people who took part in the survey thought that my business card was effective. However, a third of the people who took part in the survey said that my business card could still be improved. One of the suggestions of how I could improve it is to add some social media links, the business card already has a QR code linking to my website and all my social medias on my website however I will try a new design with social media links included but I'm worried that it will make the card overcrowded. It was also suggested the "Based in Sunderland" is vague and the business card might be better without it so I will either remove it or put a more accurate location. 1 person who took part in the survey also said that my business card did not have all the correct information and suggested adding the areas I specialise in, I didn't even think about this when I was making the card so I'm glad it was mentioned and I will definitely add it to my improved business card.

Final Design

This is my final version of my business card. I improved upon it using the feedback I got in my survey. First of all I updated the information I had on my card, removing "Based in Sunderland" and adding the areas I specialise in "Photographer/Videographer/Editor", I think these were good suggestions and did improve upon my business card. I decided not to add social media links as it would've made the card overcrowded. after adding more information my name at the top of the card also looked smaller in comparison so I decided to make it a bit bigger. Finally I created a new QR code on 'QR Code Monkey' so it would link to my updated website design.
